By order of the Governor, all flags of the United States and the flag of Missouri at all State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, on Saturday, November 19, 2016, from sunrise until sunset in memory of Corporal Donald E. Matney, who died while serving his country. Also, by order of the Governor, all flags at all State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, in Webster County only, from sunrise Saturday, November 19, until sunset on Friday, November 25, in memory of Corporal Donald E. Matney.
In Governor Nixon’s proclamation, he states that Corporal Matney was a solider in the United States Army, assigned to Company H, 2nd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. Matney was deployed in South Korea where on July 20, 1950, he was reported missing when his unit attempted to delay enemy capture of a town near Taejon, South Korea. Corporal Matney was listed as Missing in Action until May 2016.
His remains will be buried Saturday, November 19, in Seymour.
