Cities

Of the many small communities in Webster County only six are incorporated. These communities are:

Diggins: Diggins was established along the Kansas City, Springfield, and Memphis Railroad Line. Settlement occurred prior to the first survey and plat in 1887. In 1929, Diggins was incorporated into the state as a village. The estimated population in 2007 was 337.
Fordland: Fordland, like Diggins and many other communities in Webster County was established along the Kansas City, Springfield and Memphis Railroad Line. A depot was located at the southern boundary of the city. Fordland was settled prior to the acknowledgement of the first town survey of 1882. In 1883 Fordland was incorporated at the town level, and in 1953, it received incorporation as a fourth class city. The estimated population in 2007 was 755.
Marshfield: Marshfield is located along the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad Line. It was settled as early as 1830 and is the oldest community in the county. The county seat was established in Marshfield in 1856 the same year Marshfield was incorporated as a fourth class city. In 1870, with the development of the railroad, Marshfield's population began to increase. The estimated population in 2007 was 7,118.
Niangua: Niangua was settled prior to the 1870 survey by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. It was incorporated in 1964 as a fourth class city. The estimated population in 2007 was 489.
Rogersville: Rogersville was established along the Kansas City, Springfield and Memphis Railroad Line and was first surveyed in 1882. Rogersville lies half in Greene County and half in Webster County. It was incorporated as a fourth class city in 1947. The estimated population in 2007 was 2,898.
Seymour: Seymour is also located along the Kansas City, Springfield and Memphis Railroad Line. Seymour was first surveyed in 1881 and the first public sale of lots occurred in 1882. The town of Seymour was incorporated in 1886 as a fourth class city. The estimated population in 2007 was 2,022.
